I'm frustrated with regular runs out of Sydney, Macquarie Pass is over in minutes (sounds like my sex life), Putty Road's getting like a big yawn, I jumped at the chance when the kitchen fairy said OK to a couple of the lads and me "tear-arsen" through the best bike playground on the planet.

Cliff wasn't lying when he said on the first day, "You aint seen nothin yet", and I doubt I will ever again see and experience the joys of alpine and autobahn touring like that.

What an experience, I'm fifty but I felt twenty-five again (her name was Helga). Seriously, what an incredible time, the sights, tastes, sounds, road conditions, accommodations, the whole package.

Well done Cliff, me and my troupe had a sensational trip. You're not such a bad bloke either, I'm still passing some of those jokes off as my own.

The Ozalps trip though Europe was truly the trip of a lifetime. From the moment I arrived in sunny Munich, and sampled the local food and drinks in the beer garden looking toward the alps, I knew it would be fun.
The scenery is like nothing I had seen before, hills that climb forever, lakes that are a bright blue/ green colour from the melted snow. Highlights are certainly Neuscwanstein (yes I cant spell it Cliff!) castle, Comet De Roseland (near Albertville, France) and Lake Como. The food was amazing, like the pasta we found in a little restaurant in Italy, or the meat platter in Switzerland.
Believe it or not, kebabs in France are great, and make sure you have schnitzel in Germany! Having previously driven a car through parts of Europe, I am sure a bike is the best way to travel there.... out in the open air, and so easy to park. Yes in Europe they dont mind you parking the bike anywhere. Easy, convenient and fun.

As for the riding, well Australian roads now bore me! Consider this, You ride for 30 mins up the most winding road you have ever seen... climb so high you can feel the horsepower drain from the bike as the air thins, and when you get to the top? Just the small matter of 48 hairpins down the other side! We often switched the engine off.... and rolled for 20 odd kays! Try doing that in Oz! In our trip we squeezed in 14 passes, 4 in one mammoth day. The best ones? Stelvio, Susten, Grimsel and the ride to Comet de Roseland. Truth is, they were all great, endless corners, hairpins, and few cars.

As for the tour itself? Well my bike (a Kawasaki Z1000) had 8km on the clock when I picked it up, so no complaints there! The accommodation was really very good. In truth I didnt expect it to be but Cliff found some great locations! The ski lodge in Imst was great. We sat on the balcony and had a beer to celebrate the first days ride, looking out to the mountains that surrounded us. Cliff was great, friendly, fun, and knowledgeable, though even he managed to lose us once or twice in the madness of Italian traffic! The trip quickly became some mates riding together, much more than a rigid tour, and even a few fun nights were had by all.

I would totally recommend Ozalps. The whole trip was really very good value, given I rode a brand new bike, stayed in some great places, and had the benefit of someone else to show us all the tricks and fun bits of Europe. I made a few new riding friends too along the way. I most definitely will be back next year to see some more.
